Rumor has it that Gossip is a Bad Reflection of the Tale Teller
It happens during lunch, at the water cooler, or even gets passed in a note. It’s gossip…giiirrrll!
No, HonestDee is not talking about getting your weekly dosage of the teens from the Upper East Side. Although, their scandals can be entertaining, HD is referring to the chit chat used to pass the time about people in workplaces.
Examples:
1) Coworker A gets a promotion. So, to cope with being rejected for the job opening, Coworker B says Coworker A did some dirty deeds to get her advancement.
2) Coworker C gets engaged. Coworker D spreads the story that Coworker C is only getting married because she is secretly pregnant.
Office Gossipers, a piece by Lois B. Morris in Allure magazine talks about how women use gossip to enhance their reputation, but it reflects their negative demeanor. “Women who gossip at work are shaping their own reputations along with those of the people they’re discussing. Despite their tendency to be at the center of social networks, gossiping women are seen as less warm then others…” Morris said.
HD is not expecting any of you readers out there to own up to how you find out the latest rumor or whether you are the source. You can possibly agree with HD’s opinion on gossipers: they have low self esteem and try to have control over situations.
“…female coworkers who regularly contribute negative information about people have a greater need for control than infrequent gossipers” Morris said.
Those of you who agree probably have a high esteem in yourself and do not squander your spare time sending negative vibes out about people with vile words. Sorry to say, but those of you who don’t believe gossipers are attempting to make themselves feel better by putting others down, are perhaps on the low self-esteem gossiper list.

Unemployment’s Silver Lining
A statement rarely heard during the current financial struggles in the U.S is that losing a job may be good news. Uneasiness is an understatement to describe how people feel about the economy, but it can be turned into a positive. This new found freedom is a great time to improve and change your life.
As a freelancing journalist, HonestDee, (HD), has a great deal of experience on how to spend free time to revamp your life and indulge in things put off due to being heavily involved in a career. Going from a 4o hour to 25 hour work week gave HD time to pamper herself with activities she only dreamed of doing while writing about others lives, and current events at a city newspaper.
Instead of making a bucket list, HD, the adventure seeker, just opened herself to new experiences and opportunities. She took on focus group movie surveys, trying out for an all female football team, auditioning for a game show, and even planning a solo vacation. These occasions did not turn out as planned, but her go with the flow attitude helped her to enjoy each quest.
Unemployment can also help you change your career path. This is a time to step back and figure out what will make you successful. Slow Love: Can You Lose Your Job and Find Happiness? is about Dominique Browning, a previous editor-in-chief who found bliss after losing her job. Want more encouragement? Click on the links.
